Most people tend to focus on Judas' betrayal on a day like today. With Easter being right around the corner. Yet my mind went somewhere deeper. Leading up to the betrayal, Jesus found Himself praying in the garden and sweating drops of blood in Luke 22:14. I found it no coincidence that Luke is the only book in the Bible that recorded this phenomenon, because Luke was known as a physician. Given his occupation, I imagine he would want to know and understand the depth behind this happening.
Sweating drops of blood is an actual medical condition called hematidrosis. It is caused by extreme mental and emotional distress. during this process out bodies nervous system is so hyperactive, the surrounding blood vessels constrict causing them to rupture. The blood then comes through the sweat gland ducts appearing as drops of crimson.
I want you to understand the significance of this moment.
Long before He was betrayed.
Long before He was denied.
Long before He was slandered.
Long before He was beaten.
Long before He was mocked.
Long before He was brutalized.
Long before He was humiliated.
Long before He was spat on.
Long before He was crowned.
Long before He was crucified,
Long before He was speared.
The blood flowed from His mind first.
The weight of what He knew needed to be done for us, was so heavy it caused Him a physical manifestation of trauma, which was considered rare. Yet, the only things that kept Him on this path to persecution, was us. The forgiveness He knew it would bring us. The Salvation He knew it would bring us. The relationship He knew it would bring us. The eternity He knew would be waiting for us.
The prophesy was fulfilled in Isaiah 53:7 when they reference Jesus being led. Being led is a passive state. One must be willing to follow someone for them to lead them. I don't know about you, but most of us run from trauma. Most of us avoid pain. Most of us hide from persecution. Knowing my God bled from the trauma of His intense thoughts and emotions with the cross right around the corner, yet still chose this path, is truly the blood that stains my mind the most.
Sincerely Selena
